| Description |
English: Route of the Former Dyke Railway. Same view as 54168 but with more snow and an added digger. The railway was opened in 1887 and was initially successful but soon came under competition from motor buses which went all the way to the top whereas the railway ended at Devil's Dyke Farm leaving travellers with a good uphill walk. By the 1930s the line had become uneconomic and was shut in 1938. North of the by-pass the railway is now the Dyke Railway Trail until it reaches this point where it turns east, the rest of the route can be viewed from here but not walked. The railway followed the hedge until it reached the station based at the farm in the distance on the left. |
