Description Native, cool-season, perennial herb 20–50 cm tall, with stems intricately branched and dispersing as a tumbleweed. Basal leaves are linear-lanceolate to lanceolate, sometimes fiddle-shaped and 7–20 cm long. Stem leaves are numerous and similar to basal, but smaller. Flower whorls are 2–5-flowered, distant, loose and nearly all subtended by a leaf. Valves 4–5 mm long, c. 3 mm wide, variable in characters. Fruiting pedicels of varying length within a whorl, thin, articulate below middle. Generally found in heavy soil Kangaroo Grass grasslands.
