Prince Alexander Dolgorouky was an art-lover and a great collector. The picture-gallery inhis lordly house on the English Quay in Petrogradcontains several masterpieces of the old and modemschools. The whole house is a regular museum andfull of valuable artistic gems. The Dolgoroukycollection of snuff-boxes is unique. His widow, the Lady of Honour, Princess OlgaDolgorouky, born Countess Shouvalov, enjoys thepossession of this house during her lifetime. Shewas never quite so popular in society as her husband,and since his death, and the marriage of herdaughters, limits her appearance to intimate gather-ings in her own set.
