Description

Die Kirche war ein Geschenk König Friedrich Wilhelms III. an die Großbeerener Bevölkerung als Dank für die gewonnene Schlacht bei Großbeeren und die dadurch verhinderte Besetzung Berlins durch die Napoleonischen Truppen. Grundsteinlegung 23.8.1818 am 5. Jahrestag der Schlacht bei Großbeeren. Der aus verputzten Backsteinen bestehende Zentralbau in Form eines griechischen Kreuzes sowie die hölzerne Inneneinrichtung aus Sandsteinimmitat beruhen auf Plänen Karl Friedrich Schinkels.

Die Kirche gilt seit 1980 (!!!) als kulturhistorisch wertvolles Denkmal und wurde bereits in der Zeit von 1980 -1986 saniert und restauriert.
