English: Schooner David Porter Lying to in the Bay of Biscay, Jan 30th 1814

'David Porter' is depicted lying to in the Bay of Biscay on 30th January 1814. Inscription: "Schooner David Porter, Lying to in the Bay of Biscay, Jan. 30th 1814". The schooner was called after David Porter, one of the original members of the Board of Navy Commissioners established by the United States Congress in 1815. He remained on the Board until 1822 (Howard I Chapelle The History of the American Sailing Navy, pages 305 and 349).
