As this matter is of more vital importance than most peo-ple, even scientific men, are aware of, I will, says theArchitects correspondent, venture to suggest a mode toventilate haylofts, and to give veterinary surgeons somethingto think of. I believe that one-half of the diseases in horsesand cattle is brought on by feeding spoiled hay, eithertaken from hay mows or stacks, also from grain feed thathas been heated and spoiled. THE ELECTRIC TORCHLIGHT PROCESSION IN NEW YORK. Steam Power Company; a belt led from the engine to apulley on the armature shaft. Secured to the truck was thepole of one of the largest steam fire engines built by theClapp and Jones Company. The electricians in charge ofthe display felt assured of the successful working of theirdynamo and engine, and in order to have an ample supplyof steam, they obtained the fire engine, which they knew tobe a rapid and reliable generator while in motion. Extend-ing from this boiler to the engine were two flexible pipes,one leading to the steam chest and the other carrying theexhaust. The latter pipe was provided with a three-wayvalve, by means of which the steam could bedirected eitherinto the smokestack to increase the draught, or into the openair. Following the fire engine were two ordinary wateringtanks, holding 930 gallons, which were connected to thefeed pump by lines of hose. Between the tanks were thecoal carts.
