  • Significance: These shelter cabins were used by dog-sled mail carriers on the Kotzebue-Point Barrow mail trail during the period 1925-1950. Shelter Number 1, built and designed by the Alaska Road Commission for mail trail use, commemorates territorial communication systems in remote Alaska before air transport became dominant.
