Description
English: Shepton Mallet: site of railway station Shepton Mallet had two railways until the 1960s: the Somerset & Dorset, which ran from Bath to Bournemouth, over the Mendips, and the Great Western branch from Yatton to Wells and Witham, known as the ‘Cheddar Valley Line’. This is the site of its station, opened in November 1858. It was briefly a terminus until the line from Witham was extended to Wells in March 1862.
