Summary[edit]

Description
English: Shipwreck, The Scar. Battered remains of ship visible at low tide. This coast is notorious for ship wrecks. There have been so many that identification is generally difficult. However this could well be part of the Rohilla a 7409 ton luxury cruise ship which was requisitioned as a hospital ship when she went down just north of Saltwick Nab in 1914. 84 passengers and crew lost their lives but 139 were saved by the efforts of the lifeboatmen one of their greatest achievements. It is reported that the superstructure of the ship broke away and was washed ashore 500m away which would be about this spot. During the rescue the Whitby No. 2 lifeboat was smashed to pieces. For further details of this disaster see http://www.biship.com/historical/rohilla.htm or here http://www.titanicandco.com/rohilla.html Stephen McCulloch suggests this is the MV Creteblock, see 722553. I am sure he is correct but I'll leave the story of the Rohilla here because it is relevant to this stretch of coast.
