日本語: 1951年サンフランシスコ講和条約調印式に出発する日本全権大使の吉田茂首相は、海外ではまだ知名度が低かった。『LIFE』の表紙となったこの写真には「国を愛し国民を愛し家族を愛し、そして葉巻を愛するシゲル・ヨシダは日本のチャーチルと呼ばれている」と説明が付けられ、国内版、国際版などを合わせ、約1,800部が世界を駆け巡った。講和条約前に吉田首相を全世界にアピールできたと、密かに自負している。と三木淳は述懐している。
English: Prime Minister Shigeru Yoshida, the Ambassador of Japan to the signing ceremony of the San Francisco Peace Treaty in 1951, was still not well known overseas. This photo, which became the cover of "LIFE", was explained as "Shigeru Yoshida, who loves the country, loves the people, loves his family, and loves cigars, is called Churchill in Japan." Approximately 1,800 copies ran around the world, Approximately 1,800 copies, including the USA version and the international version, ran around the world. I am secretly proud that I was able to appeal to the whole world before the peace treaty. Jun Miki recalls.
