English: From left, Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel; Brad Carson, the undersecretary of the U.S. Army; William Sloat, the brother of Spc. 4 Donald P. Sloat; Gen. Daniel Allyn, the vice chief of staff of the Army; and Sgt. Maj. Raymond Chandler, the sergeant major of the Army, attend a ceremony during which Medal of Honor recipients Command Sgt. Maj. Bennie G. Adkins and Sloat were inducted into the Hall of Heroes at the Pentagon in Arlington, Va., Sept. 16, 2014. Adkins was awarded the Medal of Honor Sept. 15, 2014, for actions during a battle at Camp A Shau, South Vietnam, March 9-12, 1966. Then-Sergeant 1st Class Adkins was assigned to Detachment A-102, 5th Special Forces Group at the time of the action. Sloat was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor Sept. 15, 2014, for actions during a combat patrol near Hawk Hill Fire Base, South Vietnam, Jan. 17, 1970. Sloat was assigned to Delta Company, 2nd Battalion, 1st Infantry Regiment, 196th Light Infantry Brigade, 23rd Infantry (Americal) Division.
