Summary
[edit]DescriptionSmithfield Market, Belfast (1) - geograph.org.uk - 574682.jpg |
English: Smithfield Market, Belfast (1). The original Smithfield market was built in 1848 on the site of the old corn and hide markets. A ramshackle place of second-hand shops it was full of atmosphere. It was destroyed by a bomb and replaced by a temporary building which continued the tradition. The temporary building (and surrounding area) was levelled for the Castle Court shopping centre 501724. The present structure has never achieved the greatness or celebrity of its predecessors. The view is from Smithfield Square North. |
