Thus it now is possible to correlate the various archeologicalhorizons from Guasave (Ekholm, 1942), Culiacan, and Chametla(all in the state of Sinaloa) with Autlan and Tuxcacuesco (Jalisco),and with the state of Colima. Once the Apatzingan studies are com-pleted, this Michoacan zone may be added to the general west Mexicanscheme. Owing to the rather large series of local cultures which areinvolved, the data are too detailed to permit incorporation in theaccompanying time chart (relative chronological chart, p. 42) ; onlythe Autlan-Tuxcacuesco area is included. Although the west Mexican archeological picture is taking form,central Mexican ties are, on the whole, tenuous. Curiously enough,it would appear that the earliest horizons recognized to date in thewest equate with Teotihuacan III (ca. A.D. 800). This is far toolate for the west Mexican cultures to have played a very significantformative role in the development of the American Southwest cultures.
