Sylvester, ten years old, "Only helps in the mill afternoons and Saturdays." "But if I was twelve," he said, "I'd go to work to-morrow." The other boy, Floyd, said he was thirteen, but he doesn't seem to be. He said, "I sweeps. Get thirty cents a day. Sweepin' keeps you at it right steady. Not much chance to rest. You have to be twelve to work."
