Summary

[edit]
Description
English: South Field The name of the field according to the 1839 tithe map. Formerly part of The Broyle, a medieval deer park that also had common rights, that was enclosed in 1767. Highfield Farm is on the left whilst in the distance on the right is the hamlet of Broyle Side which grew up as a small settlement that lined and used the former common. When enclosed all the single plots tended to be concentrated here which in time became prey to land speculators who would buy then sell on to developers.
