| Description |
English: Southern end of Frodsham Score with saltmarsh and Mersey Estuary to left Frodsham Score (=shore) is on the South Shore of the Mersey Estuary with the Manchester Ship Canal to its southeast. The strip of land was enlarged during canal construction and is now over two kilometres long bounded in part by gabions and elsewhere by vegetated earth banks that are experiencing erosion in a number of places. Towards its northern end, earth embankments enclose a rectangular canal deposit ground. The land cover is rough grassland with many patches of dark-coloured nettle and burdock in summer, plus occasional shrubs. Cattle and sheep graze Frodsham Score they are transported across the Ship Canal by raft from the landing stage near Frodsham Marsh Farm (SJ4979). Frodsham Score is not accessible to the general public, but is visited by ornithologists, who conduct monthly bird counts, and wildfowlers. This photo was taken on a Manchester Ship Canal Cruise. |
