Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Southport Pier The end of the pier: as the light begins to fade on a winter's afternoon, sand and sea seem to merge on the horizon. Southport nearly lost its pier in 1991 when Sefton Council, faced with massive maintenance costs, considered demolishing it; apparently this fate was averted by just one vote in the council chamber. Now the pier has been refurbished and appears to have a secure future.
