Summary
[edit]DescriptionSpire, St Thomas's Church, N14 - geograph.org.uk - 326979.jpg |
English: The copper-clad spire of St Thomas's parish church, Prince George Avenue, London N14. It was added to the church when the building was completed in the 1950s. The spire and new entrance replaced, the temporary corrugated iron end, which had been there since building had been curtailed with the declaration of War in 1939. Some time in the 1960s, I cannot remember exactly when, the spire blew down in a gale. When it was replaced the copper used in the new panels had been treated so that it didn't tarnish, and to this day the bottom panels are shiny with the upper part of the spire green with verdigris. |
