Text Appearing Before Image:
36 THE STORRS & HARRISON CO.'S CATALOGUE South Orange Perfection. Similar to the preceding in growth. Remarkably free flowering; when in bloom is a mass of the most perfectly formed double flowers, about V/2 inches in diameter; soft blush pink at the tips, changing to white. Pink Roamer. A hybrid of the sweet briar, which it somewhat resembles in character of bloom, while the growth, which is very rampant, partakes more of the Wichuriana type. The single flowers are over 2 inches in diameter, a bright, rich pink with large, silvery white center and orange red stamens, producing a charming effect; delightfully fragrant. Manda's Triumph. This is a grand variety. The flowers, which are pure white and very double, are produced in clusters of from 10 to 12 on each cluster on small side shoots, literally covering the plant and standing well above the foliage. J5c. each; J2 for $1.50. Strong two year 30c. each. The set of 4 for $1.00.
Text Appearing After Image:
THE YELLOW RAMBLER "AGLAIA." THE THREE RAMBLERS-CRIMSON, WHITE AND YELLOW. A trio of beautiful, hardy climbing Roses. The introduction of these new Ramblers furnishes us with new colors for the decoration of porches and pillars in the north. We have for years had plenty of crimson and yel- low climbing Roses in the tender class, but none that are hardy where the mercury falls more than 10 to 12 degrees below the freezing point. With the Ramblers we may have these much desired colors anywhere in the north. They are all remarkably free bloomers, being literally covered with fine large clusters of flowers that remain fresh and bright for an unusual length of time. Crimson Rambler. Wherever seen during the past summer it has been a mass of rich, glowing crim- son, and everyone who has it is delighted with it. Perfectly hardy; wonderfully free flowering; in- tensely bright and vivid in color. The plant is a strong, rampant grower, making shoots 10 to 12 feet long in a season when well established. The flowers are produced in large trusses pyramidal in shape, often 35 to 40 in a cluster, fairly covering the plant from the ground to the top with a mass of bright, glowing crimson. The color is simply superb, and is retained unfaded, or without showing any of the purplish tinge so often seen in dark roses, for an unusual length of time. For walls, pillars and porches, or any other place where a hardy climbing rose is wanted, nothing can be more desirable or beautiful. As many as 300 blooms have been counted on a single branch. 15c; 4 for 50c. Large plants 40 cents. Yellow Rambler. (Aglaia.) The only yel- low hardy climbing rose. It has been thoroughly tested and found to suc- cessfully withstand without protection a continued temperature of zero and below. It is similar to Crimson Rambler in manner of blooming, the flowers being in immense clusters and having the same lasting qualities, re- maining in bloom three to four weeks. 15c; 4 for 50c. Large plants, 40c. White Rambler. (Thalia.) In habit of growth, foliage, manner of blooming and shape of flower this is identical with C. Rambler, differing only in color, which in Thalia is pure, clear white. 15c; 4 for 50c. Large plants 50c. One each of the 3 Ramblers 40c. Large 2 year plants $L00. ROSA RUGOSA-JAPAN ROSE Forms a sturdy bush 4 to 5 feet high, covered with large, dark green, glossy foliage, crowned with terminal clus- ters of ten to twenty flowers, three inches in diameter. Perfectly hardy. A valuable plant for the hardy border or shrubberies, its large, handsome scar- let fruit being very ornamental all through the Autumn and early Win- ter months. Rugosa Alba. Pure white, 15c. Rugosa Rubra. Deep rose, 15c. PERSIAN YELLOW. Perfectly hardy; flowers double and full; deep, golden yellow in color; blooms very freely in June. 25c.
