Summary

[edit]
Description
English: St Ann's Parish Church Lady Ann Bland supported the Whigs and helped them found St Ann's Church and also provided most of the funding. The church, consecrated in July 1712, was dedicated to St Ann, the Mother of the Virgin Mary, appropriately named as it honoured both the benefactor and the reigning monarch, Queen Anne, who granted an Act of Parliament to establish the church. It is thought the church was designed by John Barker, in a classical style influenced by Christopher Wren. A cupola on the tower was removed in 1777 for safety reasons and it is interesting to note that the tower marks the very centre of the city.
