Summary[edit]
| Description |
English: St Cuthbert's Island St Cuthbert was a 7th century monk, who took the message of Christianity from his Scottish base at Melrose to Holy Island. Cuthbert's time at Holy Island was short, as he desired a life of contemplation, and in 676 the Abbot granted him leave to retire to take up the simple life of a hermit. Where Cuthbert chose for his retreat is uncertain but tradition say's that it was on the rocky islet of St. Cuthbert's Island. |
