Summary[edit]
| Description |
English: St Mary's Church, Tadcaster The Parish Church of St. Mary the Virgin, Tadcaster. The original stone church replaced an earlier wooden one in around 1150 but was burnt down by the Scots when they ravaged the north of England in 1318. It was rebuilt between 1380 and 1480 but was subject to frequent flooding, so between 1875 and 1877 it was taken down stone by stone and rebuilt with the foundations raised by five feet with only the tower left as it was. The church has a famous east window designed by William Morris. |
