Description
English: St Mary's church - stained glass window C19 stained glass window by Percy Bacon of London. St Mary's > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/941658 chancel, porch, south door and much of the nave walls date from the 14th century; the massive tower > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/941662 with the remains of a sundial > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/941664 on its south wall, arcading, chancel arch, clerestory and roofs are C15. The nave has a hammerbeam roof with figures of saints holding musical instruments and angels holding shields; the remains of a doom painting can be seen above the chancel arch > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/941675. St Michael's chapel in the north aisle > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/941703 has reredos that were made up from 4 medieval panels > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/941707 - the parclose screen is C16. The chancel > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/941681 was restored and reordered in 1897 but retains its C14 sedilia, piscina and easter sepulchre. The stained glass - one seen here, see also > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/941692 - is a complete set by Percy Bacon of London. The Norman-style font > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/941713 dates from the late 19th century; its font cover > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/941715 opens up to reveal painted panels.
