Description
English: St Mary the Virgin, Narford, Norfolk - Monument in the South Aisle with Three coloured shields, with crest above: An elephant proper and motto: Vix ea nostra voco.
  • 1: Or, a fesse gules between three elephants' heads erased sable (Fountaine);
  • 2: Fountaine impaling: Argent, a chevron between three cinqueloils gules (Chicheley);
  • 3: Argent, a fesse wavy between three lions' gambs erased sable (Clent) impaling Fountaine.

Inscription:

"Matri piisimmae Sarae Fountaine, et sorori dilectae Elisabethae Clent Andreas Fountaine, Eques Auratus P." ("(Sacred to) The most pious mother of Sara Fountaine and delightful sister of Elizabeth Clent (and) Andrew Fountaine, Knight Bachelor") Here also lies Elizabeth Price, daughter of the above-said Eliza Clent and wife of Captain William Price, who died July 27th, 1740, aged 40. Also two of their children, who died infants.
Per Burke, 1884, p.371: Elizabeth Fountaine, sister and heiress of Sir Andrew Fountaine, the heiress of this family, which flourished in Norfolk tempore Henry III, married Col. Edward Clent. Her only daughter and heiress Elizabeth Clent married Capt. W. Price and left an only son Brigg Price, of Narford Hall, who assumed the surname of Fountaine (Burke, Sir Bernard, The General Armory, London, 1884, p.371)
