| Description |
English: St Wilfrids Chapel Consecrated in 1917 the chapel is actually the former chancel of Selsey parish church and dates back to around the 13th century. The original church is believed to have been built on or near the Saxon cathedral of Selsey which was a Bishopric in its own right from c.705 to 1076 when the Normans moved it to Chichester. The church served the nearby community of Selsey until that too moved away to the south in the early 19th century and as the new settlement began expanding it was decided to move the parish church closer, consequently the nave was removed and rebuilt about a mile to the south in 1864-66 as St Peters, leaving behind the chancel which is all that remains today. |
