th. Went with Helen and Mr. Withington to St. Georgesin the East and to Wapping. Mama arrived this evening. August I ith. Harold arrived. August 12th. To Bevills Bures, Suffolk, where we spent the nightwith the Proberts. Helen and Harold were interested in meetingPrince Kropotkin, who was living in a small old cottage on theProbert place. The Proberts had lately restored this cottage andothers. August 13th. To Earls Colne, Cambridge, and Angel Inn, Mar-ket Harborough. August 14th. To Lord Brayes, where we had luncheon, and thento Coton House, Warwick, and Oxford. Found the Brayes aboutleaving for a visit to Mexico. Although a Roman Catholic, he is layrector of the Established Church at Stanford, which he has been re-storing at considerable expense. The Arthur Jameses were in thesouth of England. August 15th. MRS. I. N. PHELPS STOKES STANSHAWES August 16th, Sunday. To Church at Seend. Met the rector In thechurchyard. He at once recognized me. At the communion servicehe and his assistant brought the sacred elements down to the pewwhere I sat. August 17th. To Stanshawes, where we had luncheon with theHoopers and Mrs. Hoopers youngest daughter. Went to Yatechurch, where Harold photographed the Stokes monument. We alsocalled on the Rev. Mr. Ford and his wife. August 18th. To Gloucester, where we found the tomb of BetsyRudge^ and her husband, James Rudge. August 19th. To Matlock and to Liverpool. August 20th, Thursday. Sailed from Liverpool, per Baltic. August 28th. Arrived New York. August 29th. By automobile to Noroton, where we enjoyed visitsfrom Newton, Ethel and Carrie and their families. Robert andGraham were much interested in their campaigns for seats in theAssembly. They were running on the Socialist ticket and were notelected. Helen was active in Consumers League work, and in fitting
