Highsmith Archive.; Credit line: Gates Frontiers Fund Colorado Collection within the Carol M. Highsmith Archive, Library of Congress, Prints and Photographs Division.; Title, date and keywords based on information provided by the photographer.; The creation of Jim and Phoebe Bishop, though the heavy lifting was all Jim's, began in the late 1970s as a simple mountain cabin and grew like topsy as whimsical inspirations came to the couple. Jim does everything: he worked with his father in the family's Bishop Ornamental Iron shop, welding and scroll bending and learning how things fit together. He has hauled, milled, hoisted all of the materials and handled each and every stone in the castle on average of SIX TIMES to create Bishop's Castle.
