Fifteen miles from Schenectady, we come to Ballston Spa, with its valu-able saUne springs. In a few minutes more we reach Saratoga Springs, themost popular and fashionable resort on the continent. The village, which isexceedingly beautiful, has a resident population of twelve thousand, and asummer iDopulation often of five times that number. It claims, with much justice,to offer more attractions than any other watering-place in the world, andis charmingly located, surrounded by beautiful scenery. The Avalks and drives are full of interest, that to thebeautiful Saratoga Lake, four miles distant, over a fine macadamized road,divided in the center by a row of shade trees, being the most noted. A narrow-gauge raihoad, ten miles long, runs to the summit of Moimt Mc-Gregor, which affords extended views of the valley of the Hudson, and thebattle-fields of Bemis Heights and Saratoga. The main line of theD. & H.runs south to Albany, and the Adirondack Railroad follows the upper Hudson toTSTorth Creek, fifty-seven mUes from Saratoga, whence stages run tMrty milesfurther to Blue Mountain Lake.
