ice of the Urethra, is imme-diately above the center of the base of the vestibule. It is about one inch, or twoand one-half centimeters, below the clitoris, and just above the orifice of thevagina. The mucous membrane projects at its orifice and forms a papilla whichcan usually be felt. Catheters are sometimes introduced into the female urethra without exposure ofthe person, consequently there may be some difficulty in engaging the instrumentin the external urinary meatus. The index-finger of the left hand is inserted intothe vagina and with its palmar surface forward is held against the anterior wallof the vagina; then the catheter, held in the right hand, is carried along thepalmar surface of the left index-finger; when it reaches the vaginal orifice, its beakis tilted forward and by slight manipulation enters the urethra.
