BRONZE VESSEL, WOTTON used for measuring time and for other purposes, it willbe convenient to discuss the bronze vessel of frying-panform (Fig. 1) that stands alone and calls for anotherexplanation. It is of stout metal with base between anoblong and oval, and sides bent outwards but not farfrom vertical. At the ends the side gradually rises b2 4 BRONZE VESSELS OF THE EARLY IRON AGE 1*6 in. vertically above the bottom, the normal heightbeing 1*2 in. The base measures outside 95 in. by8*2 in. and is practically flat. All that is left of thehandle is a plate 1*7 in. long with a vertical iron rivetand a pair of bronze ears bent over to form a socket andpierced by a stout iron pin still in position, and partlyembedded in a ferruginous mass identified by Mr. Lyellas sand cemented by iron rust. A remarkable parallel that clears up more than onedoubtful point is to be found in Archceologia, XVI, 364,PI. LXIX. In 1807 Mr. Thomas Walford exhibited nine thin culinary vessels of copper (
