| Description |
English: Surveying woodland in Pound Wood This group of students are looking at the understorey and ground flora in a long-uncut section of Pound Wood. They will be comparing it with a recently-coppiced area nearby. These trees would not have been coppiced for at least 40 years. The tree in the middle is a typical coppiced Hornbeam. There are several stems growing out from one stool (hidden by the ground flora). The Hornbeam on the right has just two stems. On the left, the trees are two Birches. Birch does not respond well to coppicing, so these are probably two near-adjacent trees.
