Jesus Christ the Saviourof all. According to the old stories, thepanther is of a tame and gentle disposition,being loved by all creatures except the dragon.Three days after eating a little food (of anaromatic description probably) it emits asweet smell from its mouth, which is attractiveto all beasts. Other animals are even healedof their diseases by the panthers breath.The dragon is afraid of the smell, as itnearly kills him. There is a good representa-tion of the panther in a fourteenth-centuryBestiary in the British Museum—all mannerof beasts are drawn coming to him, whilebelow there is an illustration of two dragonshiding their heads in the holes of the earth. The panthers sweet breath is to remind menof the sweet influence of Jesus Christ, Who isto draw all men unto Him, and deliver themfrom the power of the dragon. As the panther retires to its lair and sleepsfor three days after food, it was naturallya type oi Our Lords sojourn in Paradise. 86 .*.,■...,..::■-••. ■-
