Additional Notes May 15th was the 62nd anniversary of the Palestinian Nakba (the Catastrophe) that marked the massacres visited upon them by the Israelis, their dispossession, the destruction and razing of more than 500 of their villages, and the ethnic cleansing of their country that continues to this day with the conspiring financial aid, military support and political cover provided by the United States, and under the noses of a cruelly racist international community.

The first boat of the Freedom Flotilla to break the siege of Gaza once again was due to be launched on Wednesday, May 12th from the Irish port town of Dundalk. The Irish Government, however, prevented the MV (or “Motor Vessel”) Rachel Corrie, from leaving Dundalk in response to heavy political pressure, from Israel. After much todo and heavy intimidation tactics, the MV Rachel Corrie set sail on Friday, May 14th, at 10:45 pm local time at Dundalk. This past week reports from Israel have indicated that the Israeli authorities will not allow the Freedom Flotilla to reach Gaza with its cargo of much-needed reconstruction material, medical equipment, and school supplies. According to Israeli news sources, clear orders have been issued to prevent the ships from reaching Gaza, even if this necessitates military violence.
