ndin Instantmicous Flashlight Photography—at last made possi-ble with the advent of the Multi-Speed Shutter. This shutter, as most of the readers will be aware, worksbetween lenses up to extremely high speeds. An ingeniouselectrical device has been perfected by means of which theshutter is released during the maximum illumination of theflash at a high speed. Results obtained by this method set anew mark in flashlight work. The shutter, being a between-lens instrument and exposing the whole plate at once, is thebest shutter that can be used for flashlight work, whereasshutters of the Focal Plane type are entirely eliminated on theproposition, as their sectional exposure over the plate lastslonger than a flash. Therefore the plate would receive fullillumination only at that instant when a flash reaches its fullillumination. This lasts probably i/ioo part of a sec-ond. With such high speeds as the Multi-Speed Shutter iscapable of it is a comparatively easy matter to cut in and make 240
