the exposure and the develop-ment of the plate. The proper night photograph should havesoftness, absence of harsh contrasts and detail in the shadows. Fixing: The fixing bath should be stronger than normal asthere is so much silver to be dispelled. Shield the plates fromall light and leave the ordinary plate in the bath for 20 min-utes. The double-coated plate should remain from 30 to 40minutes. These negatives are prone to defacement as the emulsion isthinner than the average, and it is best to varnish them to pre-vent accidents. Flow the varnish across the plate and standon one corner to drain and dry. While these notes have discussed but a few of the manysubjects available to the night photographer, the writer truststhat they will serve as an incentive to those workers who haveheld no faith in the possibilities along this line, to include thework in their efforts as camerists and so realize the trulyartistic results which await them if they will but work withserious intentions. 44
