We will recall that engravers and etchers employ a sheetseveral inches wider on all sides than the impression, and thislight margin with the plate mark is all the embellishment suchwork seems to need. Of course, it was no part of the originalscheme with engravers that the plate mark should be noticeablebut it is, nevertheless, attractive. We do not recall having seen an etching surrounded bygrey, brown, black or intermediate shades unless the impres-sion was pulled upon that particular kind of paper. Ill wise larger and as nearly as possible matching the stock of thesprint itself and then, by the means which I shall describe, platemark the centre of the mount. The necessary materials are few: A sheet of about lo ply cardboard the same size as the mount. Paste. An embossing tool such as the Ingento. *(This is a handle in the end of which is a J4 inch steel ball which revolves freely) or a short piece of hardwood with a perfectly rounded end. ■ The procedure is simple: Take the sheet of lO ply card-board, the same size as your mount, and paste upon it about ^inch above the center, a piece of 4 ply card slightly larger than. the print. This constitutes a form upon which the embossingis done.^ With the face of the mount in contact with this form lay them together upon a smooth surface and pass the embossingtool over the back of the mount, with slight pressure, follow-ing the outline of the raised portion of the form.
