its direction and quantities were more easily denned; but it does not follow, that it should be takenthus in all instances, as there are many positions of the foot, in which it may be secondary, andmore dependent on other leading points and lines. Proper judgment, therefore, should be exer-cised, in the selection of the line, or lines, most expressive of the general action and characterof the object to be represented. This important beginning once made, farther details mustnaturally assume their just positions and connexion to the whole, as well as to one another—besides, serving in the process as correctives.
