The past week has been very dull ■when the time of year and the splen- did weather we have enjoyed is con- sidered. There are quantities of roses, some of them very fine, others badly mildewed. American Beauties are fine for the season, and are to be had in quantity. Mrs. Russell is quite a lead- er, it being next to the Beauty in size. The retailers, who want to keep up with the rose market, will soon have to post printed lists and enlarge their ice boxes, should they desire to keep a vase of each variety in stock. Dahlias are more plentiful, and should the frost hold off the growers may have a chance to recuperate. Some of the stock is fine. Chrysanthemums are not at all plentiful as yet, white par- ticularly being in demand. A few October Frosts are in, which, with Golden Glow, make up the assortment. A larger assortment is expected the coming week. Single violets are of- fered, small as yet, but welcomed by most flower buyers. Orchids are more plentiful and gardenias are in regu- lar supply. There appears to be val- ley and Easter lilies in abundance. Carnations are much improved and only waiting for the dahlias to make their exit to assert themselves. NOTES. Radiance roses, together with Mrs. Ward, are features of Joseph Heacock. Immense quantities of palms are being shipped out before the cold weather arrives. Thousands of all sized younger stock have been waiting for space to expand in and the men are busy between times, making up and potting, or rather tubbing, for all plants above a six-inch pot are grown In cedar tubs, to fill in the empty benches. A feature of the Heacock place is that every inch of space must be pulling all the time; thousands of ferns and orchids are grown hanging from the sash bars on velvet, for that Is what they call this otherwise empty air space.
