nometry as suggestedby the very moderate degree of pressurenecessary to cause a barium enema toretrogress. It is disturbance in relativetensions in different locations that isabnormal and disorganizing. 7. Whenever there is over-rapid smallintestinal motility from any source, thesmall intestinal forms will reflect thisindicating over-distension and increasedfluidity of the intestinal contents morenoticeable in the jejunum. The simplestillustration is that of conditions after agastrojejunostomy in which the smallintestine chiefly the jejunum is oftenobviously over-distended and at operationcan be demonstrated to be dilated. Thesame thing occurs in achylia gastrica inspite of x-ray suggestions of a normalgastric motility and normal pyloric sphinc-teric action. Frequently the same type ofdistended loops ol small intestine areassociated with diarrhea suggesting thatthis is not altogether colonic as has beensupposed (Figs. 48 and 49).
