Menstruation, preg-nancv, diabetes, arteriosclerosis, gout, ca-chectic states, injuries, age of the patient,area of the body exposed, local anemia,dryness of the skin, acidity of the sweat,cutaneous vasomotor irritability and mainother factors have been designated as theunderlying causes of such variations. It itbe assumed that skin reactions do vary, acareful elimination of some of the many con-trolling factors should in time lead to thedetermination of the actual causes ot theso-called idiosyncrasy.
