his assumption has grown into a convic-tion. Everywhere the presence of the same creative mind hasmade itself felt, and features which at first sight appeared to beforeign to the writers purpose were found on nearer view to benecessary to the development of his plan. It is impossible tojustify in this place an impression which depends upon theexamination of the text, but in the commentary the reader willfind the details on which it rests, and he is asked to reserve hisjudgement until he has completed his study of the book1. 1 It is not the intention of these re-marks to deny that the Apocalypse, aswe have received it, may be a reissue bythe writer of the original work in anenlarged or amended form; such a viewdoes not militate against the essential unity of the book.
