nal surface of the river bed was about 34ft; the piles which con-stituted its foundation, and the walings which bound them together, weremade throughout of timbers 13in. square; the walings were disposedsymmetrically on both its faces, and were bound together by 2in. tiebolts. Its cost, including removal, reached the high figure of about£35,000, and, as its cubic contents, calculated from the above measure-ments, are about 378,000 cubic feet, the cost per cub;c foot does not fallfar short of Is.
