Summary[edit]

Description
English: The Auld Kirk Yard Looking across the graveyard from the riverside towards the Auld Kirk. This was built in 1652-56, Oliver Cromwell having seized the older church of St John as the site for his Fort of Ayr. The new church was built on the site of the former Greyfriars Monastery, which existed until the religious Reformation of 1558-9. (Sources: Plaque on the church wall, and "Ayr Stories" by Dane Love.)
