Summary[edit]
DescriptionThe Barton Turns, Staffordshire - geograph.org.uk - 1580581.jpg |
English: The Barton Turns, Staffordshire. This road used to be Ryknield Street in Roman times, then the A38 to Derby, running alongside the Trent and Mersey Canal. Since the main road was diverted behind the pub and made into a dual carriageway in the early 1990s, with everyone zooming by at 60+ miles per hour, this excellent, now little backstreet Marston's pub has probably lost a lot of its custom, though it is very popular with boaters, but that is seasonal. So with so many pubs closing down due to drink-and-drive laws, non-smoking laws, breweries allowing supermarkets cheaper and cheaper deals making pub prices uncompetitive ... what is in it for gems such as this? The recent opening of "The Waterfront" in the marina nearby certainly will not help, however that has received some distinctly "variable" comments on some pub review websites!
