No. 50 CHARLES BAUGNIET FRENCH (1814-1880) A DIFFICULT ANSWER In a high-panelled room, furnished in gilt and brocade, whose walls areadorned with old-time pictures, a little group of three ladies is gathered rounda table. Two of them are seated close together, reading over a letter whichone of them is writing, and the third is standing before them, giving heropinion of what should be said, emphasizing her points with her extendedforefinger. The dresses are of the style of the early nineteenth century,when chignons and earrings were in vogue. The sunlight streams througha window on the left, falling full upon the faces of the little group. Signed at the lorrer right, C. Baugniet. Height i^A inches; tvidih, SS# inches.
