ueen 0 the May radeship of old friends reunited on the cam.pus His Majesty, the King, Robert Park Williams, crowned Miss Rosalie Hemp-hill Queen of the May in a very impressive ceremony. Following the corona-tion, the royalty entertained the crowd by having their subjects dance before thethrone. The court then had the crowd make themselves at ease and enjoy therefreshments. The gathering made merry until the hour came for the enacting of thepageant. The inagural poem of Henry Van Dyke written for the opening cele-bration of Rice was the theme of the pageant. Ably directed by Stockton Axsonand J. W. Slaughter, the poem, Texas, A Democratic Ode, was wonder-fully interpreted by the actors. The foundation of the great State of Texas and the subsequent developmentto the present day, when the spirit of the past challenges Rice to learn the aimof the new school was all excellently portrayed. ^^•.*•>.■ :.rr::,!^;* -r^^^ . •••»*^^ • ^»*-.: ■■ v//».7 ///ii:;: • />v.

:^/// •^;///. COMMENCEMENT 1921 Farewell, Alma Mater! So said the graduatingclass of 1921. With a touchof sadness, and yet with aheart trembling with ex-pectations, they stood be-fore the AdministrationBuilding to receive theircoveted degrees. The prideand joy of a task well donewas theirs. They werethrilled with the thoughtof graduation, with thehappiness of success andyet they were sad with thethought of parting fromloved ones, from the build-ings, so cold, yet so warmwith memories of happy days. They were bidding good-bye to the care-freelife of the student, to the joys and sorrows of college days, but they were proudwith the thought that from these halls they were fitted to battle in the turmoilof the business world.
