t Lake boat lines callregularly to receive and discharge freight to and from all points on the GreatLakes, except Milwaukee and other equally nearby local points. Between thisUnion Boat House and the Central Manufacturing District, a regular switchingtransfer arrangement is maintained, the switching expense under present tariffsbeing absorbed by the boat lines, if the tonnage exceeds a certain minimum. This arrangement permits District tenants to ship by lake and rail, withoutteaming expense, thereby securing minimum freight rates during the season ofnavigation. The pictures of some of the Junctions receiving and classifyingyards, shown elsewhere in this booklet, are convincing as to the Junctions facilities. 23
