Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The Cotton Chapel Chapel in St.Botolph's church to the west of the porch, anciently known as the Founder's Chapel of unknown dedication and possibly the burial place of Dame Margaret Tilney who laid the foundation stone for the tower c1450. It was restored in 1857 in memory of John Cotton, Vicar of St.Botolph's church 1612 to 1633, who fled to America avoiding religious persecution where he settled in a place called Trimountain, later to become Boston, Massachusetts.
