Summary[edit]

Description
English: The Crescent, Buxton Built in the 1770s to designs by John Carr of York, to rival Bath and provide hotels and boarding houses for the fashionable set who came to sample the hot springs (the free well is on the right). Without changing height, the Crescent is three storeys high at the front, where the grand public rooms sat above small shops behind the arcade, and four storeys at the rear, for bedrooms. After a long period of dereliction, the Crescent is now being restored as a boutique spa hotel with a rooftop hot bath fed from the original spring.
