[edit]DescriptionThe Cross Guns, Avoncliff in 2003 before restoration - geograph.org.uk - 876064.jpg |
English: The Cross Guns, Avoncliff in 2003 before restoration This view taken in March 2003 shows this popular pub before the restoration work which was carried out in 2004. Comparing this with the 2007 photo on the site you can see that the exterior has been stripped back to reveal the original Cotswold stone and the large pub sign has been moved to the end wall. The pub dates from the 16th century though part of the building is thought to be from about 1490, though it has been much extended since then. Originally it was known as The Carpenters Arms, but the pub got its present name just over 200 years ago. The pub's website gives fascinating information about the history and the restoration work.
